NSCLC TNM Staging

AJCC 9th edition stage grouping for non-small cell lung cancer. Enter T, N, and M categories, including N2a/N2b subclassification, to see the corresponding clinical stage.

T Category

  • T1a: ≤1 cm
  • T1b: >1–2 cm
  • T1c: >2–3 cm
  • T2a: >3–4 cm
  • T2b: >4–5 cm
  • T3: >5–7 cm, invasion of chest wall/mediastinal pleura/diaphragm/phrenic nerve, or separate nodule in same lobe
  • T4: >7 cm, invasion of mediastinum/heart/trachea/esophagus/vertebral body, or separate ipsilateral nodule in different lobe

N Category

  • N0: no regional lymph node metastasis
  • N1: ipsilateral peribronchial and/or ipsilateral hilar nodes
  • N2a: single ipsilateral mediastinal/subcarinal nodal station
  • N2b: multiple ipsilateral mediastinal/subcarinal nodal stations
  • N3: contralateral mediastinal/hilar or supraclavicular nodes

M Category

  • M0: no distant metastasis
  • M1a: separate tumor nodule(s) in contralateral lobe, pleural/pericardial nodules, or malignant effusion
  • M1b: single extrathoracic metastasis
  • M1c: multiple extrathoracic metastases in one or more organs
